Camera Obscura

Thanks to Daniel Fry for the following:

Camera Obscura originally ran from 2003 to 2007. Screening short films submitted by a throng of creative contributors from Sydney to South America and feature-lengths salvaged from archaic archives or exhumed from underground collections, C.O. quickly became one of Sydney's premiere dodgy experimental film nights.

In 2009, Camera Obscura is back due to popular demand. Every second Monday of the month we'll be screening a bevy of fresh and innovative material in our new home at Serial Space, Chippendale. Entry is free and everyone is welcome.

We're already looking for new contributors and an unsuspecting audience to pack out our triumphant return on Monday the 13th of April. If you're interested in becoming a part of C.O. please don't hesitate to contact us - its a great way to meet like-minded film weirdos, have your work screened in front of an appreciative audience, and have a fun and, most importantly, free night out.

In our return screening we'll be showing last year's Electrofringe Short Film Festival entrants plus feature-length "The Phantom Carriage - KTL Edition" - The original silent horror classic by pioneering Swedish film maker Victor Sjöström, featuring an intense new soundtrack recorded exclusively by KTL (Stephen O'Malley of SUNN O))) & Peter 'Pita' Rehberg.

Monday the 13th of April at 7PM. Serial Space - 33 Wellington St. Chippendale

We also have a Facebook page for an easier way to stay up-to-date with what's happening at C.O.

Rosamund Pike - Theatre - Madame de Sade

[updated 19 March 2011]

Reviews

The Stage
"...the performance of the evening comes from Rosamund Pike in the title role, growing from a submissive young wife with a romantic view of her debauched husband into case-hardened maturity, giving breathtaking power and urgency to the final scenes."

The Guardian
"...the excellent Rosamund Pike exudes radiant spiritual devotion..."

theatremania
"...Rosamund Pike is quietly compelling as the devoted Madame de Sade; she has a near-radiant quality at times..."

John Morrison
"...[Frances Barber, Deborah Findlay and Judi Dench are] all acted off the stage by Rosamund Pike, who should earn an Olivier for her performance in the impossible role of de Sade's missus. Whether elegantly draped in eighteenth century silks, as here, or prancing around the stage in the altogether, as she did in Hitchcock Blonde a few years ago at the Royal Court, Pike is sensationally beautiful. If there were ever any doubts about the fact that her acting is just as sensational, there won't be after this role."

Reviews

The Independent
"...The performances were superb; what would you expect from a cast that boasted David Morrissey and Warren Clarke in supporting roles? Rebecca Hall was delicately feisty as a grieving mother-cum-love interest, and Sean Bean hideously charming as Dawson. But it was Garfield who proved the revelation... his Dunford was pitch-perfect..."

Leicester Mercury
"...an outstanding portrayal of fragile, brittle, bewildered grief by Rebecca Hall..."

theysayitsraininginnewyork
"...the whole show is littered with fine performances..."

Scotsman
"...the acting, across the board, was perfect: Garfield showing the shift from cockiness to horror to anguished resignation, Anthony Flanagan as a troubled fellow reporter and Eddie Marsan as a more cynical one. Rebecca Hall particularly stood out as one of the bereaved mothers..."
