Hayley Atwell. Film - Brideshead Revisited, Film - Cassandra's Dream

While doing promotion for Brideshead Revisited Hayley and Matthew have been asked about what it was like to work with Woody Allen. Matthew was in Match Point, and Hayley was in Cassandra's Dream. Here are some quotes from them:

"He spoke to her a lot more than he did to me... I wasn't as central to the story as much as Hayley was, and he likes ladies, also..." - re. his and Hayley Atwell's experiences working with Woody Allen

"...With Woody it's just 'Say your lines and fuck off' - but he says it kindly..."

Hayley Atwell - Television - The Prisoner

From Dark Horizon's interview with Hayley:
"...Atwell: It's The Prisoner television series with Ian McKellen and Jim Caviezel.

Question: Okay. Now, is this based on the original?

Atwell: Yes. It's a weird sci-fi - half of it will be based in New York, though, and the other half in this village.

Question: Is it a series, or a mini-series?

Atwell: It's a six-parter, so I don't know what they'll be doing afterwards. Because I didn't know how the original works. But - yeah. It's six parts, with ITV, but I think also America. It's being sold to a channel.

Question: And whom do you play in it?

Atwell: I play a girl called Lucy, who is the prisoner's kind of love interest, but you realize very quickly that nothing is what it seems, and she's actually working for a corporation that is responsible for this so-called village, where people are leaving their names and identity, and being called by their numbers. And then you also see Lucy in the village, and she's someone with a number this time, and she's also blind. And it's a bit of a mystery as to who she is. It's ambiguous. But it makes for exciting television..."

Samuel West - Theatre - The Family Reunion

From whatsonstage.com:
Samuel West (pictured) and Penelope Wilton will return to the Donmar Warehouse later this year to star in Jeremy Herrin’s revival of TS Eliot’s rarely seen 1939 verse drama The Family Reunion (See News, 18 Apr 2008). The centrepiece of the Donmar’s upcoming festival celebrating the work of the 20th-century writer, the new production runs at the Donmar’s Covent Garden home from 25 November 2008 (previews from 20 November) to 10 January 2009.

After eight years absence, Harry (West) returns to the ancestral home to celebrate his mother's birthday. Tormented by a dark secret, he confides in Aunt Agatha (Wilton) only to discover that the family too have its own hidden demons...

Herrin commented: 'It’s a play for really intelligent actors. The material is very rich and intellectually demanding but also very satisfying - the actors have to have a hunger for that.' West and Wilton, said Herrin, are 'two of the smartest actors around'...

Dan Stevens - Theatre - Hay Fever

Reviews

BBC
"...There is some superb deadpan support from Peter Bowles as Judith's husband and Dan Stevens and Kim Medcalf as their two children..."

The Times
"Judi Dench is divine as the self-dramatising centre of Noël Coward’s narcissistic comedy, in which the aptly named Bliss family prove that hell is one’s own people. It doesn’t really matter that Dench plays an actress of a certain age, nor that Peter Bowles, as her husband, is a mediocre novelist, but their professions bring out the worst in them and their children, admirably played by Kim Medcalf and Dan Stevens..."

Reviews

musicomh
"...The [play's infamous rape] scene is still shocking, less in the nudity and more in the nonchalance of the Roman officers, as what they see as an antidote for boredom destroys the life of a young Druid (a superb Dan Stevens)..."

The Stage
"...An outstanding cast include’s [sic] Tom Mannion's cool, commanding Julius Caesar, Dan Stevens as the defiled young priest..."

"...in the perfect tone with which the near-tragic romance of Hero and Claudio is played by Olivia Darnley and Dan Stevens..."

Dan Stevens - Theatre - As You Like It

[updated 18 March 2011]

In 2005, Dan received an Ian Charleson award nomination for his portrayal of Orlando in this production.

Reviews

Curtain Up
"...[Rebecca Hall] has a natural immediacy and range that bring her character to vibrant life. It's a rare quality.
Hall is well matched by Dan Stevens whose initial rage mellows endearingly into that of a love-struck lad who writes terrible poems. Who but a poet as sure of himself as Shakespeare would have the guts to stick really bad poems in the middle of his plays?
Orlando is written as a perfectly normal kid who is late for dates and stubbornly obsessed in his passion for a girl he's seen once. Stevens captures all those qualities..."

New York Times
"...spare a few plaudits for a recent graduate of Cambridge University named Dan Stevens, who plays Rosalind's gawky, moony suitor, Orlando. Mr. Stevens tempers his teen-idol good looks with a vibrant, appropriately Shakespearean sense of how love makes fools of even the heartiest young men..."

Daily Trojan
"...Dan Stevens is delightful as the impassioned lover Orlando..."

Hollywood Reporter (10 February 2005, Ed Kaufman)
"...a fine performance by Dan Stevens..."

Variety
"...In a breezily confident professional debut, Dan Stevens' Orlando is a sweet, swooning lad whose callowness is offset by surprising strength both of physique and of character..."

Telegraph
"...Dan Stevens as an exceptionally likeable Orlando..."

LA Times
"...Stevens starts strong and grows stronger, able to be rebellious and likable, sappy and attractive at the same time..."

Hayley Atwell - Film - The Duchess - Toronto film festival

From Variety:
"...on the Gala red carpet are Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes for The Duchess, a Paramount Vantage biopic about Lady Georgiana Spencer, directed by Saul Dibb (Bullet Boy). Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell and Charlotte Rampling also star..."

And from the festival's official site:
The Duchess Saul Dibb, United Kingdom
International Premiere
Long before the concept existed, the Duchess of Devonshire, Georgiana Spencer (Keira Knightley), was the original “It Girl” -- ravishing, glamorous and adored by an entire country. Determined to be a player in the wider affairs of the world, she helped usher in sweeping changes to England as a leader of the forward-thinking Whig Party. But even as her power and popularity grew, she was haunted by the fact that the only man in England she seemingly could not seduce was her very own husband, the Duke (Ralph Fiennes). Directed by Saul Dibb (Bullet Boy, The Line of Beauty), The Duchess is the story of an extraordinary woman who rose to fame by staying true to her passions in a world of protocol, gossip and social rules – and paid the price. Academy Award™ nominees Knightley and Fiennes head an international cast that also includes Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell and Charlotte Rampling. Based on the award-winning biography Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire by Amanda Foreman, The Duchess is written by Dibb, Jeffrey Hatcher and Anders Thomas Jensen. The Duchess is a Paramount Vantage presentation.

Samuel West - Theatre - Waste

From the Almeida press release:
Samuel West will direct Harley Granville Barker’s Waste, which runs at the Almeida from 25 September – 15 November 2008, with press night on 2 October. Designs are by Peter McKintosh with lighting by Guy Hoare and sound by John Leonard.

The cast includes Nancy Carroll (Amy O’Connell), Richard Cordery (Russell Blackborough), Patrick Drury (Justin O’Connell), Peter Eyre (Lord Charles Cantilupe), Will Keen (Henry Trebell), Helen Lindsay (Countess Mortimer/Bertha), Hugh Ross (Cyril Horsham) and Michael Thomas (George Farrant). Final casting will be announced shortly.

Radical politician Henry Trebell sees his personal and political lives collide. An affair with a married woman threatens Trebell’s power and passionate ideals; her insistence on a woman's right to choose brings private scandal into the public spotlight. Controversially banned by the Lord Chamberlain on its release, Waste is a rich portrait of early 20th Century society with strong resonances and relevance for today...
